I’m still the VC of UNILAG – Prof Ogundipe insists
Confusion reigns supreme at the University of Lagos, popularly known as UNILAG, over the status of the institution’s vice chancellor’s appointment.
Earlier, it was reported that the vice-chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, was on Wednesday, August 12, sacked by the school’s governing council.
His removal was announced on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting attended by members of the council.
The said meeting was presided over by the university’s pro-chancellor and chairman of the council, Wale Babalakin, who is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
However, Professor Ogundipe has asked the public to ignore the announcement of his removal from office, according to a report by The Cable.
The UNILAG VC described his purported removal as untrue and a figment of the announcer’s imagination.
“The attention of the University of Lagos (Unilag) management has been drawn to the ‘Notice to the General Public on the Removal of the Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos’; dated August 12, 2020 and signed by Oladejo Azeez, Esq, Registrar and Secretary to Council, stating that the current Vice Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS has been removed from office with immediate effect,” the statement read.
“This is untrue and a figment of his imagination.
“Therefore, stakeholders of Unilag and the general public are advised to disregard this mischievous disinformation about the sitting Vice Chancellor of Unilag, contained in that notice.
“Professor Ogundipe still remains Unilag’s Vice Chancellor.”
