Nigerian woman admires polygamy, seeks second wife for her husband

A Nigerian biochemist, Buithat Lawal, has recently taken to social media to express her desire to find another wife for her husband.
In a post shared on her Facebook page on Wednesday, Lawal explained that while she fully supports the concept of polygamy, she believes it should be practiced with fairness and wisdom, something she feels is often lacking in the way some men approach it.
Lawal clarified that she is not looking for a co-wife who would create conflict or jealousy but rather someone who is kind, loving, wise, and of strong character.
“Hello everyone, I’m smiling as I share this. Yesterday, I posted about wanting a co-wife — someone to join me and my husband on this life journey. Many of you thought I was joking, but I meant every word,” she wrote.
“I’ve always admired polygamy. It has never been an issue for me. What concerns me is how many men approach it, often without fairness or wisdom.”
She went on to share how her views have evolved over time. “As I’ve grown, so have my thoughts. I’ve always told my husband that if he wishes to take another wife, I support him, but he must include me fully in the decision-making process.”
Lawal emphasized that she is not seeking a co-wife who is jealous or manipulative, but someone who is compassionate, wise, and possesses good moral values.
“I want to create a peaceful home where love and trust flourish. I want the freedom to travel for work, knowing my children are safe and cared for. I also want to be able to love and care for another child of my husband, not born by me, with genuine sincerity, and for their mother to trust me completely.”
She concluded by sharing her vision for polygamy. “I believe in the potential of polygamy when practiced justly. But the real questions are: Can my husband be truly fair? And can the new wife be spiritually grounded?”
Lawal ended her post with a reflection on life’s challenges and the importance of a thoughtful approach to polygamy. “Life doesn’t have to be this hard. I simply wanted to share my thoughts on polygamy and what it means to me.”
