Only a miracle can save PDP from total collapse – Fayose
Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has issued a stark warning about the future of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying the party is teetering on the edge and only a miracle can prevent its total breakdown unless immediate steps are taken toward reconciliation.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Fayose criticized the PDP’s leadership, lamenting ongoing internal strife and a lack of strategic direction. “These issues didn’t begin today. Everyone is out for their own gain. There’s no genuine effort toward unity or reconciliation,” he said.
Describing the party’s condition as chaotic, he compared it to a disordered household: “When you fall on metal, may God help you. Everyone is guarding their own cup, their own tea, their own seat. You can’t achieve anything with one broom.”
Fayose emphasized the party’s deteriorating structure, noting, “It’s obvious things are not okay in the PDP. Honestly, it’ll take nothing short of a miracle to restore the party to where it ought to be.”
He pointed to a vacuum in leadership within the National Working Committee, questioning the party’s command structure. “Who’s giving orders? Where’s the direction? There is none. This situation is unlike anything we’ve seen before.”
On the party’s legal entanglements, Fayose underscored the need to uphold judicial decisions: “You can’t build anything on a faulty foundation. The Supreme Court’s rulings must be respected.”
Reacting to recent comments by former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, Fayose described him as a political force that needs careful engagement. “Wike is a bulldozer. When he says he’s coming and he shows up, you know it’s serious. He must be handled constructively.”
Addressing the ongoing debate about power rotation ahead of the 2027 elections, Fayose maintained that the presidency should remain in the South after President Bola Tinubu’s first term, opposing any move to return power to the North.
Despite being a PDP stalwart, Fayose expressed support for President Tinubu’s administration. “Tinubu is managing a bad system better than what we had before. It’s not perfect, but it’s an improvement.”
He also dismissed rumors that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is eyeing the presidency in 2027, saying Makinde had denied any such ambition and would not challenge another Yoruba candidate.
Fayose concluded with a reality check for Nigerians: “No leader can please everyone. The same people who once rejected Jonathan now want him back. Expectations need to be realistic.”
