Davido ventures into Nollywood, unveils plan for investments in film industry
Popular Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed plans to expand his influence beyond music by investing in Nollywood and other film-related projects this year.
In a recent chat with content creator Darryl, Davido shared his long-standing interest in filmmaking, stating that he might have pursued a career in film if music hadn’t taken center stage in his life.
“I studied business marketing, so even if I wasn’t singing, I’d still be in the entertainment industry—probably behind the scenes,” he explained.
The award-winning artist said he is already collaborating with his longtime music video director, Dammy Twitch, to bring several creative film and TV concepts to life.
“I’m investing in a couple of films this year. Shout-out to my director, Dammy Twitch. We’ve got some ideas—some series coming. The film space in Africa is going through a tough time, so we’re definitely going to tap into that,” Davido said.
Beyond producing, Davido also hinted at an interest in acting, pointing out that he’s already showcased his acting chops in several of his music videos.
“I can act for real. You’ve seen it in videos like ‘Jowo’ and ‘Nwa Baby’,” he added with confidence.
This new direction follows the release of his fifth studio album, 5ive, which dropped on Friday. The 17-track project features a mix of Nigerian and international artists, including Chris Brown, Omah Lay, Victony, Victoria Monét, Becky G, and Shensea.
Leading up to the album’s debut, Davido released several singles, including “Be There Still,” “Funds” featuring Odumodublvck and Chike, and “Awuke” featuring YG Marley.
5ive follows the success of his 2023 album Timeless, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s World Albums Chart.
