Maresca confident of Chelsea support despite recent dip in form
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca insists he retains the full support of the club’s ownership despite mounting frustration among supporters.
The Blues’ progression to the UEFA Conference League semi-finals was marred by boos following a 2-1 home defeat to Legia Warsaw on Thursday night. Despite a 3-0 first-leg win, the lackluster second-leg performance sparked criticism from fans, adding pressure to a team that has slipped to sixth place in the Premier League after managing just five wins in their last 16 matches.
Asked whether he still felt backed by the Chelsea hierarchy, Maresca responded confidently: “Absolutely yes, no doubt. We’ve spent almost the entire season in a Champions League position. We’re in a European semi-final. So why would we need to change anything now? I have no doubts about our direction or how we’re working.”
Maresca acknowledged the recent setbacks but remains focused on the long-term: “Results like the one against Legia can make us stronger moving forward.”
Club captain Reece James was critical of the team’s approach, saying they had “disrespected” the Conference League with their complacent display at Stamford Bridge. Maresca partly agreed with his captain’s assessment.
