PDP youth group urges Makinde to join 2027 presidential race

A youth political group under the PDP umbrella, Progressive Youth for Makinde’s Presidency 2027 (PYMP2027), has publicly called on Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to contest in the 2027 presidential election.
The group, affiliated with the PDP National Rebranding Forum, says its campaign is rooted in a firm belief in Makinde’s leadership abilities and a desire for national transformation.
Responding to media claims that Makinde has no interest in the presidency, the group clarified that their movement is entirely independent and not influenced by the governor or his political circle.
“We’ve never claimed any formal connection with Governor Makinde. Our advocacy is purely driven by faith in his capacity to lead Nigeria out of its current challenges,” said Christopher Odianarewo, PYMP2027’s national secretary and head of media.
The group expressed concern over the current situation under the APC-led federal government, citing rising insecurity, economic instability, a weakening currency, and a struggling education sector.
They pointed to Makinde’s achievements in Oyo State especially in education, healthcare, agriculture, and security as evidence of his readiness to lead at the national level.
“This isn’t about politics as usual. It’s a patriotic call to rescue our country,” Odianarewo added.
While emphasizing their neutrality in intra-party politics, the group reaffirmed their commitment to reviving the PDP’s vision and uniting Nigerians around a credible, transformative candidate.
