Sergio Aguero tips Arteta to become Future Man City manager

Manchester City icon Sergio Aguero has backed Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta as a strong candidate to eventually succeed Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.
Speaking in an interview with Stake.com, the former City striker praised Arteta’s managerial growth and suggested he is well-equipped to take the reins if Guardiola departs. “Pep has extended his contract, and Arteta is doing a fantastic job at Arsenal. It’s a hypothetical situation for now, but if the question is whether Arteta could manage City one day — I’d say he’s certainly qualified,” Aguero stated.
Guardiola put an end to speculation about his future by signing a new deal with Manchester City that runs until the summer of 2027. Interestingly, Arteta’s current Arsenal contract is set to expire in the same year. The two Spaniards share a close professional history, with Arteta having served as Guardiola’s assistant at City before taking over at Arsenal in 2019.
Arteta has earned widespread praise for transforming the Gunners into title contenders, and his reputation could soar even higher if he delivers Champions League success. However, a failure to secure silverware in the coming seasons could cast doubt over his long-term future at the Emirates.
While Guardiola’s eventual exit will leave big shoes to fill, Aguero believes Arteta could be the right man to step into them when the time comes.
